Coding Summer Camp

I first learned about Codeverse when they contacted me about collaborating with them on school visits and at the grand opening of their amazing new facility at the Westchester Mall.  This company began in Chicago with the world’s first fully interactive coding studio, and had plans to open up in other major cities this summer.  Unfortunately Covid-19 happened and construction was put to a halt.  That has not stopped Codeverse.  They are offering the same classes and camps virtually.

What can you expect at Codeverse camp?

At these week-long camps, kids aged 6-13 learn to code, build unique mobile games, submit apps to the Codeverse app store, attend virtual field trips, win prizes, and more!  I recently spent some time at the app store, and I am embarrassed to admit how long I spent playing (free) games that had been designed by kids!  Virtual field trips include exploring deep space, learning about the future of robotics and AI, and interviewing a CEO.  Campers work on their social skills (which is especially important during these days of isolation) by working together to problem solve, squash bugs in their code, learn advanced coding concepts, and practice giving and receiving constructive feedback.  The camps run Monday-Friday for 2 hours per day, with a low (1:5) kid to teacher ratio, for just $349 per child (drop $50 off that with my special link!)

If weekly classes are more your speed, Codeverse offers those as well.  Classes offer 1 to 1 50 minute virtual coding sessions as well as 1 to 1 tutoring sessions every week.  New badges and missions are added to your child’s account weekly, and they earn points to unlock harder challenges to create new games and apps.  In addition to their games going in the Codeverse app store, you can have the games go to any phone number (so mom and dad or even grandma and grandpa can play them from their phones!)  Classes are $199 per month.  Head to https://www.codeverse.com/virtual/ to sign up for a free virtual trial, but don’t forget to use my code if you end up signing up for a class!

I am disappointed to have to wait for the studio to open, but am excited for these offerings for screen time with a purpose as home schooling begins to wind down for the summer and we are looking for ways to keep our children engaged and safe at home.
